Soccer and Football

The fall season of soccer is underway.  This year S. is back on the field along with A. S. is actually playing coed soccer. At first she was not to happy about this change. Playing with boys just seemed weird and dumb. After last weeks practice her opinion seems to be changing. I saw an actual for real smile on her face. When I asked her how practice went, she said... wait for it.... "GOOD!"  No whining, no complaining, no vague answers. An honest to goodness happy answer. I almost fell down. One day I will write a post about living in a house with two teenage daughters..  A. is on a U14 team and I swear it was just yesterday that he played U8. Now he is on the big boy team. Crazy! S. and A. are also working as refs for a near by region. They are gaining some work experience and learning how to be yelled at. I feel like I have properly prepared them for this job. Meanwhile, H. has taken on the football world. I have to say I had major reservati...

Last Week of Summer

I can already feel the bite of autumn in the early morning. We have begun the final countdown of summer days. How can it be time for school already? This year promises to be one of the busiest years of my life. I pray that I am up to the challenge. The kids will be at three different schools. S. and A. will be able to ride the bus and Al will be able to walk, but H. will have to be driven. I will go back to work and Brent’s schedule at work is getting busier. All of the balls are up in the air as we prepare to handle the kids’ lives, a new program for H., football, soccer, piano, swim, government, and school. Meanwhile, I am finishing my bachelor degree. At the age of 36 I am six classes away from holding a diploma. Part of that diploma requires I student teach. I have been asked by a principal to student teach at his school. It is an honor to be asked the only thing that worries me is that it will be about a 20-minute drive. My mind continues to race at how all of these ba...

Growing Up is Hard on Mom

If you read this blog with any regularity you have probably noticed a couple of things. First, my post have become more and more erratic. Second, my children are growing up way to fast. Ironically, the second has more to do with the first than you would realize. From the time my children were little I was told that raising children would change from being physically demanding to mentally demanding. Of course like all young mothers you think those older than you know nothing. In your young mother head you can not imagine a different life then the one you are currently living. The days are long as you meet every single physical and mental need of your little ones. Your a mother, and you love the days of caring for, and taking care of your little ones. You love the hugs, and the little fingers that grab your hand. You love the art projects, first times, little shoes, and most of all you adore your little ones. The process of children growing up is inevitable. Those little fingers ...

Wear Sunscreen

One of my all time favorite quotes comes from a commencement talk/song, Free to Wear Sunscreen. "Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind. The kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday." I am sure that I am not the only person on this planet that can be classified as a worrier. I like to think I am a champion worrier. However, the older I have gotten I have discovered that the things I worry about never happen and the things I never worry about do. Which means that there is absolutely no point in worrying. No matter how good at it I am. Life is going to throw you challenges. When challenges happen you have a couple of choices, the first is to embrace the challenge, and find the blessing in the challenge. The second choice is to give up. Giving up is actually the hardest of ...

Summer Purge

Today marked the first day of our first annual summer purge. Pretty much everyday this month, give or take a birthday, holiday, and Sunday day, I'm going to purge an area of my home. Why? Well you may have heard me mention a time or two or a million that my kids are getting big. Big enough that I have a playroom full of toys, a garage full of bikes, and drawers full of clothes with zero purpose. Other than to take up needed space. Today we attacked the bookcase. I say start where it hurts than the rest will be easy. I hope. So with the my mind set to cut back, I dusted, moved, and purged books. All in all I think I purged about 50 books. I thought it would be hard but I soon realized that many of the reference books we have are no longer needed. Between Youtube, Google, SweetSearch4me, Online Data bases, and Online Libraries reference books are eating up valuable space. As I was tossing reference books, into the GoodWill pile, I was stunned that I was turning away fro...

Day Camp

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend day camp with all the cubs. They are such an adorable group of boys. The day was full of activities and RAIN. By the time we left camp we were soaked and tired. A few of the boys even fell asleep on the way home. My favorite part of the day was a rope bridge the boys had to cross. The leader in charge of the activity was awesome, and kept all the boys cheering for each other. It was obvious that some of the boys were scared to death, and that crossing the bridge was a major accomplishment. I was thankful to be there and see how valuable these activities are for boys. They grow so much in the moments where they climb past their fear and do something new and hard. I was so proud of all them. I just love the smug little grin of accomplishment on his face. Such a guy thing. I would post all of their pictures but I don't have permission. Just imagine the look of accomplishment on their faces as they each completed the activi...
