Tis the Season

Yesterday, December blew right in... I  mean it... It literally blew right in. I came home from work yesterday to find our neighbors trampoline in our backyard Unfortunately, the trampoline was destroyed. Fortunately besides a few broken branches, loose fence boards, and a broken bird house we weathered the wind. Others were not as fortunate. The damage to Davis county was severe enough that the kids are enjoying an unexpected day off of school.  Many schools suffered damage and power outages. Not to mention damage to homes and business. Mother Nature can be kind of crazy. Now that the wind is passed and things are calmed down; I feel that no matter what my family says and does I am officially allowed to be Jolly. With a house full of growing children the magic of Santa has diminished. Finding the Spirit of the holidays is proving a little more difficult. However, I have my ways of making my children cooperate. Now that I have them where I want I'm thinkin...

Closet Explosion

Summer is bidding a fond farewell and the bi-annual closet explosion has begun. For you out of state people who don't know what this is let me explain. Here in Utah you need two full wardrobes. You need short sleeve shirts, shorts, and your favorite pair of sandals. If your a true Utahn you can pull this wardrobe off from about Mid-April to the Beginning of November. If your a wuss Utahn, like me, you pull this particular wardrobe off from June to September. Then there is wardrobe number two, long sleeves (personally I am all about the Hoodie), jeans, and shoes to keep your toes toasty. Through out the month of October your closest explodes as every article of clothing you have has to be kept out. Is today a hot day, cold day, starting out cold getting warm, is it going to snow, rain, be gloomy, or is it going to be a beautiful blue sky day. Mother Nature has several Mood Swings when it comes to Utah weather. Right now we are dealing with exploding closets and the inevitable cries ...

Big Sigh

After a week of enjoying beautiful sunshine and warm weather it is raining. Add to the rain a very high chance of snow storms. I am so depressed that I can't even work up the strength to rant and rave.  So instead I am listening to what Willow calls cerebral music and working up a great case of the blues. It is all very awesome. Want to join in on the fun?  Shoot me a comment of your favorite, "I'm to sad to deal with life song."  I will try to track the video down.  By the end of the day we will have the ultimate today could have been better song list. Fun right! Okay, whatever it gets me through the day so come on join in. Here is my first choice and the song playing on my computer right now. Joshua Radin, "The Fear You Won't Fall" if you are a Grey's Anatomy fan you may recognize it. Oh and if you have a song that makes the blues run away. Makes you jump up and boogey hey throw it in maybe it will chase the snow away. Songs are being posted below ...

Cali vs. Utah

Next time I am complaining and a griping and basically having a temper tantrum about the weather I want you to understand why. This is a picture of my parents soon to be old house. Taken this past week.  Notice the flowers, notice the green, notice the blooms, and look of spring. It don't look like that in Utah. Just so you understand. Twelve years of California living ruined me for Utah winters.

Blahh!!

Have you ever had a day where you thought, "Blahhh?" Have you ever had a week where you thought, "Blahhh?" Have you ever had a month where you thought, "Blahhh?" Have you ever...okay well I think you know where I am going with this.  I am having one of those weeks. I'm pretty dang sure that it is Mother Natures fault. I need sun.  Lots and lots of sun.  I need to know that the sun is not going to go away.  I need to know that I can play in the garden and tomorrow it wont be under a foot of snow. I am growing resentful of this Utah weather.  It is affecting my whole attitude. I don't want to be cheerful, I don't want to look on the bright side of things, what I want to do is to horrible awful things to mother nature. I also want to move somewhere that "SNOW" and "COLD" are four letter words. Actually I think that makes me smile a little.  I have now discovered two new swear words.  Awful mean little swear words. In fact if yo...

Sing a Song!

Have you ever sang, "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree?" Well I created my own version and decided to share.  Hope you enjoy.  I looked at the Calendar and what did I see? Three more days 'till January's gone! Winter last longer than I would like it too. That is why I hate January I could pretend that it wasn't so bad I could pretend that it could be worse But we all know That it isn't so Because January Blows Oh So Hard! After singing this song to Brent he said, "Traditionally February is the coldest month of the year." Which I replied, "What makes you think I wont be complaining about February?"

January Thaw

As if January wasn't bad enough, there is one little dirty trick, that this month pulls every year. People in Utah call it the, "January Thaw." Suddenly, without warning, the sun breaks through, the temperatures rise above freezing, and the snow begins to melt. It is absolutely wonderful.  Your sun starved soul begins to sing a song.  You leave the house without 25 layers of clothes.  Your feet remain dry as you walk into buildings.  It feels like, at any moment, spring will appear. It is a happy time. But it is a trick! As if mother nature was not cruel enough, with the whole winter, snow, cold thing.  She gets in one huge, knee, slapping joke. Just when you find yourself with a huge, it is almost spring, smile on your face. She slaps you with a nasty winter storm. Then the fun is all over and it is back to weeks and weeks of endless winter. I'm sure she gets a huge chuckle at all of us, falling for her, winter is almost over joke. Year after year.  I have decided th...

Sunday Afternoon

Do you want to know what the best part of winter is? Sunday, afternoon flannel PJ's. Hope your having a warm and cuddly Sunday evening. See you tomorrow in the real world. :(

I Haven't Decided Yet....

I haven't decided yet what month I want it to be. I'm thinking maybe it should be May. That means the flowers are blooming the snow is gone and H. is playing T-ball. I love flowers, I love, "No Snow," and I love, love, love H. playing t-ball. Maybe I want it to be July, No school, we are starting to eat vegetables from the garden, fireworks and my birthday. mmmm ... Maybe I will take a pass on the birthday. I'm certain that I don't want it to be January. I'm pretty sure that January makes people crazy. I have proof, one of my friends, spent a day making Adult size Hula-Hoops. "Huh... why?" I asked. "Because I can." she replied It is all January's fault. It makes you loopy. In fact , I am considering writing a letter to Obama and telling him that the, "Change," I would like to see is the end of January. Really, why do we even need January? Let's just wipe it out, take 31 whole days, worth of steps, closer to spring. I...

She's Kidding Right?

Brent has a cousin whose family just moved to Utah.  When I say just I mean like the first of the year just. Yesterday she posted on her blog how awesome snow is. So I am reading her post with my mouth wide open, thinking, your a nut.  I thought I was a nut but your a true nut. Like snow? Have fun in snow? Don't complain about snow? What the heck is her problem? Have I not spent a great amount of time on this blog, letting the world know that SNOW BLOWS?! That, along with snow comes, ice, cold, wet, endless winters! Remember, even the birds leave Utah for warmer homes? Sometimes I feel like I am getting nowhere with you people. So, it is true, that she is the kind of person who makes the best out of every situation.  Who is always smiling.  I don't think I have ever seen her not smiling. Her blog is all about how great her life is.  Honestly, she is one of those, whose life is great, because unlike us, "The world sucks people," she is a, "The world is great peopl...

"Twas The Night Before Christmas"

A little more then 24 hours and it will be Christmas. Christmas is such a crazy, wonderful, time of year. The only thing bad about Christmas is the day after Christmas. All the fun seems to disappear in a day. Of course we get to celebrate the New Year, we get to enjoy a little break from school, a little break from routine. But before you know it we are back to school, work, and routine. If you live somewhere cold you are looking ahead of months of this; Snow, cold weather, snow, ice and WINTER. Not that weather you people in warmer states get to enjoy. I'm talking bone chilling, will it ever end, WINTER. Do you feel bad for me? No! How about now? Still, No! How about for the little birds that live in this house? You shouldn't feel bad for them. They are smart enough to leave Utah when it gets cold. They are some where warm and beautiful basking in the hot sun. They are not dumb they know that ice covered homes are no fun. They are at the beach. Enjoying the ocean waves. E...

"Laughing All the Way"

Most of the year Brent lives a pretty quiet existence. He goes about his own business with out the world taking much notice, to what he is up to and what he is doing. However, when the snow starts falling, the neighbors start laughing. Brent has become the neighborhood novelty. The funny guy on the corner. The, "Can you believe that Brent was outside, in the snow, shoveling, while in his sandals." Yes you read that correctly. While I refuse to buy boots, because I don't live where it gets cold and snows, and one needs boots. Brent simply does not wear said boots. Unless, he is going to work and HAS to. To the neighbors this is Brent. A few have tried to explain to him the core differences between living in California and Utah. Like, say, wearing actual shoes while shoveling. Oh, and hey, a coat! Brent's California brain has not excepted these facts. In fact, he claims that his sandals have better traction. "Big Sigh," it is nice to know your husband ...

The Weather Outside is Frightful!

We woke up this morning to a sky full of snow.  I thought I would get out and take some pictures while the snow was still fresh.  So I yanked on Brent's boots.  Yes, Brent's boots, I still refuse to buy my own.  I don't live where it gets cold.  I don't live where there is snow.  Why would I need boots?  So I put on Brent's boots.  He chooses to deny other things. Can you guess where the street is? Does this help?  The car lights lit up the falling snow.  I thought it was kinda cool.  I bet the driver of the car thought I was weirdo.  See this tree right here.  Every year somebody takes the corner to fast and ends up in the tree.  Amazingly enough, the tree looks just fine.  While the cars that hit the tree,  not so fine.   Guess that means the tree wins. I know that you have been missing pictures of my flowers so I took this picture just for you. Somehow, it just isn't the same.   The #1 Reason I had Children Who wants to shovel snow when you can be taking pict...

Today's Post is Brought to you by the Letter S

Friday, I told you it was going to snow. Then what do I do, I show you pictures of wet, cold kids, but no snow. Well never fear, I am here for you. If I promise you snow pictures I plan on delivering to the best of my ability. Even if Mother Nature and I are not on the best of terms. Below is a picture of the snow starting. I know, pretty non-impressive. Nonetheless, this is what our trees and street looked like yesterday before bed. This is what they look like today. I know, right now you are dying of jealousy not to be part of this winter wonderland.  However, I would like to remind you of one or two things. #1) It is only October 12th and generally this stuff doesn't start until the end of November or the first of December. #2) If this persist our kids are going to be trick-or-treating in their winter coats, boots, and ski pants. #3) I work in a swimming pool and leave work wet!!!   I guess I should mention the good side which is Utah really needs the water and all the blah, bla...

Snow is Coming

It is suppose to snow tomorrow.  That is the bad news.  Summer has come and gone with astonishing speed.  I want to pout and refuse to acknowledge that it is time for the weather to grow cold and wet.  However, no matter how much I pout Mother Nature just goes about doing her own thing. Dang her! Anybody know her address I would like to have a chat with her, in person?  Good news, snow this time of year doesn't generally last. In the next few weeks you will find me reporting every kind of weather from hot to cold, from windy to wet, to dry and freezing.  Utah falls and springs are always divine mysteries.  Good news, I'm sure my dear blog readers have had about enough of my garden stories.  So for the next few months you get a break. Hey keep the cheering down. Good news in lieu of garden pictures I will be sharing pictures of snow.:) Ummm...why don't I hear cheering? Hello....  Come on it is going to be so much fun, instead of pictures of flowers you are going to get to se...
