Goings on

The below pictures have nothing what so ever to do with this post. I am posting them for two reasons. First, they are metaphorical, the whole never give up message is in these pictures. Second, I read recently that post with pictures are more interesting. These were my latest pictures so this is what you get. :) I prefer the metaphorical reason but the second is more truthful.

Moving on...

Life is busy as proof in the fact that I have become a Sunday only blogger. I have all kinds of pictures floating around on my desktop waiting for post and no time to write the post. Maybe I should post the pictures and add the words later.

So what are we up to?

Well, first of all S. is back to team swimming.

January turned into a very discouraging month for S. She found out that due to a high school variance, she will be seeking next year, she will not be allowed to swim her freshmen year. S. was pretty upset about this news and was considering bagging the variance.

That was untill we had a meeting with her school counselor. On one hand it was a great meeting and it is always good to hear great things about your kid.

Which we did!

 Go S!

On the other hand it was very surreal to be planning out high school and what she needs to accomplish in order to make it to college. HOLY MOLLY! When did S. get old enough for us to talk about college, and scholarships?

Turns out her original decision to change high schools was a good one. The high school she wants to go to has a lot more opportunities for students seeking scholarships. In fact, the high school is the number one high school in our district for the number of college scholarships earned. We are talking lots and lots of scholarship money. Including, scholarships to some pretty swanky colleges. Can you say Harvard?

So she is going to sit out high school swimming her freshmen year. Wednesday was her first day back to team swimming in 11 months. She was a very happy girl and felt good about the year she is going to have to wait. She also says it is weird to swim without pain.

ummmm ok.

The other three monsters are keeping us running.

A. is busy with scouts and earned his first merit badge this past week. In addition to scouts, young men, and student council, he is preparing for the district science fair after placing in our school science fair. He is also still playing the bass and says he plans to stay with it next year.

Al, keeps us running between basketball, city choir, and piano. Also, last month she had the opportunity to participate in the district story telling festival. She wrote an original story and shared it at a district competition. She did not move past the district level, but this past week we received her scores in the mail, and she did awesome. All of the judges had a lot of positive remarks. The only thing she really was docked points on is animation. Apparently, they wanted more hand motions and body movement.

Al said she had a blast and now she knows what they like she can't wait to compete again next year.

About the only child that doesn't have us running around like crazy chickens is H. Right now he is content to being the only child on more than one night of the week. Brent and I know that it is just a matter of time before that changes so we are enjoying the quiet time we have with him.

Well that is as brief as I can be about the monsters right now. They are all doing great and they are such a huge blessing to me. I am so grateful to be their mom and to enjoy all their comings and goings. I really enjoy all the craziness that they bring to my life.

Happy Sunday,

Krissi

PS So you're probably wondering what is up with the cat pictures. Well the first picture is our bird feeder. The bird feeder provides us hours of entertainment because our cat spends her days trying to catch birds. Who for the most part escape her every efforts, thanks in part to the bell we have tied around her neck. However, I said the pictures were metaphorical for never giving up, every now and then our cat runs outside, and does her sneaky cat routine, and actually catches a bird. So far this winter the score is, Birds 458 Cat 1. Oh, this was not the 1 day just incase you were worried.  Like, I said never give up!

What school does S go to? CHS? I have my soap box about the "ghetto" schools. They get lots of stuff. It's a half written blog post in cue. Maybe I'll hit the publish button on it someday.

I went to CHS and I got a scholarship. :) It's not such a bad school. Go Falcons!
Not bad at all. I worked at CHS and loved it. I went to a worse elementary school and got way more stuff than the kids at the school on the hill. See, what did I tell you? There's my soap box... it's creeping out. Plzzzzzzz people, there is no "ghetto" school in Davis County. I seriously need to publish that blog post I have half written... For whatever reason, I think this is my sign.
And, as in "people" I don't mean Angie and Krissi. I love ya'll, but I mean all the people. You know. The. People. Should I stop commenting now? Yeah, maybe.

At my Age

I saw this quote the other day and had to smile. It has been interesting finishing school at my age. I have had this feeling more than once that I am a little old, and finishing school is something I should have done a long time ago. Usually I remind myself that we all have our own paths to take in life. My path had me marry at 19 and become the mother of four beautiful rug rats by 27. Marriage and children defined me more than anything. I became more aware of my talents and abilities. I really didn't know who I was before I became a wife and mother. Waiting until now to finish my degree gave me time to figure out who I am. Well, at least to have a better idea of who I am. I love being in a classroom, I love learning, and I love helping others learn. My inner nerd does little happy dances every time I learn something new. Each person on this planet has their own God given talents. We have a responsibility to find our talents and to make the world a better place. How old you are wh...

Pinewood Derby or Bust!

If there is one thing that Brent and I both agree on.  One thing that we both believe is essential to the proper development, growth, and raising of a son. That no boyhood would be complete with out.  It would be participation in the Pinewood Derby.   Yes, on this one thing Brent and I are in total agreement.  A boyhood is not a true boyhood until a boy has built a pinewood derby car and then competed in a pinewood derby.  It is that important!  I'm sorry if you have never had the opportunity to live in a house filled with the air of pinewood derby. If you have never had the opportunity of watching a father stand to the side as his son uses HIS power tools. The opportunity to take a chunk of wood and see that inside the wood is the makings of a CAR.   You wonder why men are so obsessed with cars, with how there made, and how fast they go.  Well if you have ever brought home a pinewood derby box kit to a home with boys and men all your questions would be answered. Once the car is b...

The Kids Today

S. is now 11 years old and is counting down the days until she turns 12. She is in the fifth grade and says math is her favorite subject. She stays pretty busy with swimming and soccer. This past year in addition to a regular AYSO team she has been competing on an All Star Team. She has really enjoyed it and is really looking forward to a tournament that will take place in Hawaii this July. She still loves swimming and is still competing when she can. A. is 9 years old and is the professor of the house.  He is our silent man whose brain is in constant motion.  He reads and reads and reads and soon will read me out of house and home.  He enjoys video and computer games, and he loves playing sports.  In January he made the city swim team and continues to play soccer, basketball, and anything that I let him.  Al will soon be eight.  As in next week soon.  The best part of school she says is 3:25 when pressed for a better answer than that she say...
