Thanksgiving #3

We both knew that there was no way I was going to post daily.

Just like Thanksgiving day itself these post will come fast and binge style. :)

I think a lot of women dream of a maid to come and clean their houses or a chef to come and cook their meals.

I on the other hand dream of a master scheduler  who would create a schedule just for me. A schedule that allows me to get everything done that I want to get done. Unfortunately the only person who can create that schedule is me. Additionally, the only way I can get everything done that I want to get done is to give up sleep and turn a 24 hour day into 27. A master scheduler would probably tell me to prioritize or something in those regards.

Oh dear considering this is a gratitude post I am not off to a good start.

Thanksgiving thanks number three is "traditions."

Our lives are full of traditions. Things that we always do to celebrate life. Traditions can be grand and traditions can be small. Traditions are what we look back on and think, "I remember when Mom would always...."

One of my favorite traditions with my family has been carving pumpkins. Brent and I started carving pumpkins are first year of marriage. Some years we are fancier than others. Some years it is a rush to fit it in. However, it is a tradition. Over the past few years we have added to our tradition by first growing the pumpkins.

This year we took advantage of some of the vertical space in our yard and grew pumpkins on our six foot fence. You wouldn't believe the questions we were asked as they pumpkins grew larger and larger. One person even asked if they we were fake. A smart blogger would have taken pictures this summer of the pumpkins that grew wild all over the fence. However, my master scheduler did not schedule that and so it did not happen.

With the extra space we ended up with 8 pumpkins and after the ward party we inherited three more. Halloween morning the kids and I went to work. Brent said he was supervising. Below are our creations.

The first two are H's who decided to go free hand. No pattern! "Gasp"

The key to keeping traditions from driving you crazy is to go with the flow a little.

This is Al's. I thought it turned out awesome.

Every house needs one goofy jack on Halloween. Also, this was the last of 11 carved and I think we were a little done by this time.

A.'s Spooky but very cool.

The next two were done by A. and Al. by request. I have a certain neighbor who likes to engage in a little apple vs. android fight. He believes that android is superior. "WHATEVER!!" We showed our love to both.

Mine!

Get it...

No..

It is Jack from the "Nightmare before Christmas." Yup I worked the C word into Halloween.

Scary...

Here are 8 of them in the daylight hours. We  line them up like this each year because we have a funky last step that is shorter than you think it is suppose to be on one side. If you step off of it wrong you tumble to the ground. By arranging them this way it forces people to step off the normal side of the stair. Functional and prevents us from being sued! Well at least that is the story I tell Brent when he says, "How many are we carving?"

At the end of the night I just love having the spooky lit faces and the time we spend together carving.

I made it to the end of the post just in time.

Happy Monday Everyone. May your day be filled with blessings.

Our Christmas Letter

Each year I send out a Christmas letter and the one thing that frustrates me more then anything about the letter is that I can not include all the pictures I would like. That and Brent's rule that the letter has to fit on one side of one paper. I have gotten pretty clever with font size and margins to keep this rule. All you that have read this blog know that I am a sucker for pictures. So this year along with mailing out the letters I am going to post the letter with pictures. YAY ! So fun having your own blog to torture people anyway you want. Our Christmas cards were sent out on Monday so here in all it's digital glory is the letter again, this time with pictures. (Beginning of Letter) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We hope that this letter finds you happy, healthy and enjoying the holiday season. If you are like us, it has been a little bit of a difficult year dealing with increasing prices and a budget that isn't quite stretching to meet every thing you want it to...

Biking 45 Miles!

Tomorrow or Today depending on which day you read this post I will be riding my bike 45 miles. Registering for the ride has made this journey to ride my bike 100 miles very real.  Since tomorrow will probably be one of my last rides indoors I have decided to Twit about it. I'm not quite sure how my body is going to react to 45 miles and almost 3 hours on a bike. I'm pretty sure my head is going to be yelling bad words at me, at best. I'm sure there is going to be a lot of, this is crazy, what are you doing to yourself.  By Twitting about it I am going to feel a whole lot more accountable to get the ride done. Especially, if I feel there is any chance that people are logging on to see where I'm at and how it is going. If your feeling inclined I should be on the bike by 1pm Mountain time Friday the 27th. Check it out and make sure I survive!

"Laughing All the Way"

Most of the year Brent lives a pretty quiet existence. He goes about his own business with out the world taking much notice, to what he is up to and what he is doing. However, when the snow starts falling, the neighbors start laughing. Brent has become the neighborhood novelty. The funny guy on the corner. The, "Can you believe that Brent was outside, in the snow, shoveling, while in his sandals." Yes you read that correctly. While I refuse to buy boots, because I don't live where it gets cold and snows, and one needs boots. Brent simply does not wear said boots. Unless, he is going to work and HAS to. To the neighbors this is Brent. A few have tried to explain to him the core differences between living in California and Utah. Like, say, wearing actual shoes while shoveling. Oh, and hey, a coat! Brent's California brain has not excepted these facts. In fact, he claims that his sandals have better traction. "Big Sigh," it is nice to know your husband ...
