52 Blessings Challenge

52blessings
Week Three,

Are we having fun yet?

We are three weeks into this challenge and I am going to be honest. This is hard. Everyday I am tying to think about my blessings. Everyday I have in the back of my head, "What am I going to post as a blessing this week?"

I have some blessings standing in the wings for those weeks my brain isn't working.

Umm. . . okay, for those weeks it is working even less than usual.

However, I am trying to think out of the box. Trying to find those hidden blessings that I take for granted or those blessings I don't even think about.

I think I have an illness that takes a simple task and tries to make it as hard as possible.

As I stumbled out of library yesterday afternoon it dawned on me what this weeks blessings post would be.

The Library!

P1213168

I love the library. Ever since I was a kid I have loved going to the library and coming home with big, fat, stacks of books. It is nice to know that we have all that knowledge, entertainment, and information available any time we walk through the doors. We can explore any field we want to, we can learn anything we want to, we can travel to any place, any time we want to. All we have to do is show a little responsibility.

My favorite way to choose books at the library, is to go down each isle and grab a book. I don't look at the title, don't read the back cover, just grab a book.

I have found some amazingly bad books this way. I have also, found some amazingly wonderful books this way. It is a fun way to stack the library shelf at home.

I'm excited to dive into all of these books. However, there are two that I am very excited to read. The first is,

P1213170

"Grammar Snobs Are Great Big Meanies," by. June Casagxande. I am aware that my grammar needs a tad bit of work. Okay, ummm, maybe, more like a ton of work.

This book looks like it is right up my alley, especially, with the tag, "A guide to language for fun and Spite." Maybe I will get a giggle or two and learn enough that all my grammar friends don't have to cringe when they read this blog.

The second book I am excited to read,

P1213172
"Carpool Diem, a novel" by. Nancy Star. The tag says, "Ambition, Backstabbing, Politics. Being a soccer mom just isn't what it used to be." Looks like it should be a fun read.

That is my blessing of the week, Libraries.

My heart skipped a couple of beats when I saw the grammar book. Hooray for snooty grammar tomes! Whilst your reading the book, could you please keep an eye out for "whom?" Whom is a word I happen to adore, but lately it is being phased out of the vernacular.

Oh, my heart did another little dance when I saw that you also had a book about phrasology and quotation. I honestly don't think your choice of books could be more fascinating!!

I should mention that the above was written by a crazy woman who has started to read the Federalist Papers... for fun. What can I say, history gets a bit more personal when you discover it was written by your ancestors. (Guess who's husband doesn't think her quite as stuffy now that her direct ancestor is on the 10 dollar bill?) =)

I will say this... beautifully written, lovely style, amazing word scops... but wow, I should not read historical writings before bed.

You and Connie K would be great friends, I know it. She's a librarian, you know.

I used to be a grammar snob and then I had four kids.

At my Age

I saw this quote the other day and had to smile. It has been interesting finishing school at my age. I have had this feeling more than once that I am a little old, and finishing school is something I should have done a long time ago. Usually I remind myself that we all have our own paths to take in life. My path had me marry at 19 and become the mother of four beautiful rug rats by 27. Marriage and children defined me more than anything. I became more aware of my talents and abilities. I really didn't know who I was before I became a wife and mother. Waiting until now to finish my degree gave me time to figure out who I am. Well, at least to have a better idea of who I am. I love being in a classroom, I love learning, and I love helping others learn. My inner nerd does little happy dances every time I learn something new. Each person on this planet has their own God given talents. We have a responsibility to find our talents and to make the world a better place. How old you are wh...

Pinewood Derby or Bust!

If there is one thing that Brent and I both agree on.  One thing that we both believe is essential to the proper development, growth, and raising of a son. That no boyhood would be complete with out.  It would be participation in the Pinewood Derby.   Yes, on this one thing Brent and I are in total agreement.  A boyhood is not a true boyhood until a boy has built a pinewood derby car and then competed in a pinewood derby.  It is that important!  I'm sorry if you have never had the opportunity to live in a house filled with the air of pinewood derby. If you have never had the opportunity of watching a father stand to the side as his son uses HIS power tools. The opportunity to take a chunk of wood and see that inside the wood is the makings of a CAR.   You wonder why men are so obsessed with cars, with how there made, and how fast they go.  Well if you have ever brought home a pinewood derby box kit to a home with boys and men all your questions would be answered. Once the car is b...

The Kids Today

S. is now 11 years old and is counting down the days until she turns 12. She is in the fifth grade and says math is her favorite subject. She stays pretty busy with swimming and soccer. This past year in addition to a regular AYSO team she has been competing on an All Star Team. She has really enjoyed it and is really looking forward to a tournament that will take place in Hawaii this July. She still loves swimming and is still competing when she can. A. is 9 years old and is the professor of the house.  He is our silent man whose brain is in constant motion.  He reads and reads and reads and soon will read me out of house and home.  He enjoys video and computer games, and he loves playing sports.  In January he made the city swim team and continues to play soccer, basketball, and anything that I let him.  Al will soon be eight.  As in next week soon.  The best part of school she says is 3:25 when pressed for a better answer than that she say...
