I Never Win Anything

Friday was a good day.

The kind of day where you feel like there is a slight possibility that you are not failing at everything.

Not that I feel like I am failing at everything.

Who me? Why would I feel that way? I mean besides having way to much on my plate and not quite catching all the pieces that keep falling off. That doesn't make me feel like I'm failing. Nope, not at all.

Okay, well yah it makes me feel like I am missing a beat or two or three or....

Well you get the picture.

Anyway back to Friday.

Friday started off with an assembly at the kid's school. An assembly that I was in charge of. Which fortunately I have very good friends that helped pull it off. Well all right technically they took care of it and I just had to show up. :) They did a great job.

I tell you it is nice to have good friends.

After my portion of the assembly was over the school's reading specialist took over. All year the kids at the school have been reading and every time they read so many minutes they were able to put their name in a drawing for a bike. Yesterday they drew the names for the four lucky winners and Al won one of the bikes.

Which is funny because before she left for school she said, "I don't even care about the assembly because I never win anything!"

It was a fun moment.

It was also a fun moment for the whole school when they learned that they had reached their reading goal of two million minutes. Which means that this Tuesday the school's principle (who I guess is technically their ex-principle since he is now working a different job and we have a new principle but he is keeping his word anyways) will be spending 24 hours on the roof of the school.

All of the kids went crazy when they heard this and it will be fun to see him camping out on top of the school.

Later on in the afternoon the kid's had dentist appointments. I don't know about you but taking my kids to the dentist is a huge stress. One that I would love to avoid. The whole time they are ex-raying and cleaning I am breaking out in a cold sweat worried about how much money it is all going to cost me.

Added to the stress was the fact that all of the kids were getting the, "You don't brush good enough," lecture. Then I was getting the, "Mom, the kids don't brush enough and you do realize that these two are going to need braces," lecture.

I HATE the dentist office. After they were all done with the lecturing, cleaning and ex-raying it turns out that no one had a cavity and braces are at lease another couple of years away for the last two. WOO HOO!!!

Only it makes the whole, "You don't brush good enough, " lecture knoll and void in my children's mind.

Oh well.

All in all it was a good day. Frankly, I could use all the good days I can get. :)

That's awesome that Al won! Woo hoo! I too hate the dentist. Stresses me out! Totally missed you at the PTA party. :) It was a good time! We even got a bottle of soda for showing up. I know. You're jealous.

Glad you had a good Friday! I had to spend it with a cheating softball team. Grumble, grumble. Pass some positive vibes my way, will ya? :)

I have to go to the dentist tomorrow to get a cavity filled and I'm really hoping they don't find anymore.

Do you have dental insurance? I need to get some kind of dental insurance for myself and the kids soon. I can imagine braces are expensive

At my Age

I saw this quote the other day and had to smile. It has been interesting finishing school at my age. I have had this feeling more than once that I am a little old, and finishing school is something I should have done a long time ago. Usually I remind myself that we all have our own paths to take in life. My path had me marry at 19 and become the mother of four beautiful rug rats by 27. Marriage and children defined me more than anything. I became more aware of my talents and abilities. I really didn't know who I was before I became a wife and mother. Waiting until now to finish my degree gave me time to figure out who I am. Well, at least to have a better idea of who I am. I love being in a classroom, I love learning, and I love helping others learn. My inner nerd does little happy dances every time I learn something new. Each person on this planet has their own God given talents. We have a responsibility to find our talents and to make the world a better place. How old you are wh...

Hip Hip Hurray, Tomorrow is PIE Day

Well in a little less then 24 hours I am going to have to reset this counter.  I can hardly believe that it says 30 days.  I have to tell you I never thought I would make it this many days I really thought I would have to reset it at some point in time. It has been a huge motivation for me knowing that you guys are watching the counter.  Also, knowing that even if you didn't catch me in the time allowed you would see that I punked.  That I didn't have the self control, not to eat sugar. Every time I would think of eating a goodie, I would think about reseting the clock.  I would wonder who was online, I would wonder if I would get caught, I would wonder who would catch me.  By the time I got through thinking about all of that I would decide the treat wasn't worth it. Another motivation has been my kids, who have said, "Mom you don't have to reset the counter no one would know."  I wanted them to see that  I could be honest and not do something I shouldn't ...

Every Christmas

After every Christmas I make myself a promise. I promise that next year will be different. Next year I will have a plan. Next year I won't try to do everything in December. Next year I will be prepared. Like I said every year I make this promise. Which means I have not followed through, yet. As I look forward to next Christmas I realize that, fingers crossed, I will be working full time as a teacher. I will have a daughter turning 16. I will have a son turning 14 and one turning 10. On top of Christmas!  Next Christmas season is going to be an event! Additionally, this year we worked hard to get presents mailed on time, sent them priority, and they still weren't delivered until after!!! Christmas. To say I was frustrated, stressed, and upset would be an understatement! Which brings me back to the promise I make every year! Next (this) year I will have a plan. Step one of, "Let's Fa La La without Stress." Make a plan. Step two, follow the p...
