Hazy Shade of Winter

Today I was at Wal-Mart in the section that has the hair elastic, barrettes, combs and all that good stuff. I was searching through the selections and suddenly my eyes fell on one particular item that had me laughing out loud.

Then the mother with the small children ran away because there was a crazy lady in the isle.

I digress...

As I was laughing I was instantly transported back to the 1980's.

This post may age me just a tad.

For the most part, I grew up in the 80's and there are a few trends that stand out in my mind.

For example...

Neon! Neon Pink, Neon Green, Neon Yellow. There was no such thing as to much neon and Jelly Bangles the more you had the cooler you were.

Just so you know I never really had that many...

However, I did have a

SWATCH, yes I had a very sweet swatch that came complete with. . .

a swatch guard.

I may have never had the bangles stacked to my elbow but I had a swatch with a sweet swatch guard.

A trip down the 80's memory lane would not be complete without mentioning the crazy, Cyndi Lauper and Madonna costumes.

Big Hair,

Olivia Newton John, How many of you still have leg warmers buried in the back of your closet?

Guess Jeans and Esprit shirts.

Well, I don't know if you have noticed but I have noticed an increasing number of kids wearing clothes that I wore. In fact over the pass couple of weeks more then one of my students has walked in wearing an outfit that I know I wore.

However, what had me laughing out loud today was

Banana Clips

If there is one thing that I loved and wore and was never without it was my banana clip. Don't believe me. I even wore one on my wedding day. I cried on the day that my last banana clip broke. For years they have been no where to be found. I have looked.

Today, there they were! YAY!!!!

So I laughed, the little children ran away and I thought all the great styles come back. Now I just need to get me some Jelly Bangles.

Prayers and Hugs,

Bonus Points for the first person who gets the title of this post.

You gotta love The Bangles! I aceually saw them in concert a couple times!

Being that I'm your exact age, I get it. Loved my smelly raspberry Swatch watch. Banana clips made my long, curly, bushy hair that much greater.and my pink, sparkly leg warmers rocked!

I was elementary/junior high age but I totally remember all these things and yes I had a swatch and lived in neon and banana clips. That picture looks like Hannah Montana by the way. I remember the one girls were only my friends because I had cool cloths. As soon as they went out my next selection of cloths was not cool enough and they would not be my friends anymore. THANK HEAVENS.

No way. Banana clips? Neon ones?! I must admit, I was more of a scrunchy kind of hair holder girl, but I haven't seen banana clips is quite some time!

Dang - You mean I'm not first? I think I should still get bonus points! I love the Bangles too! I even used one of their songs on my wedding video. No joke. The 80's were great. Or something.

How is it I have forgotten that you wore a banana clip on your wedding day?? I need to see some proof of that awesomess!!!

P.S. On my wedding day, I pinned my long curly hair into a round-bunlike fluff on the top of my head. It would have looked like it was in a banana clip had my veil not confined it to the top of my head.

oh my - what a scary stroll down memory lane! Did we really wear that stuff?? Sadly, yes.
The Bangles - I loved that cassette tape I owned! :)
The name brand clothing? What about Z. Cavaricci and Girbaud? (two brands I was never able to afford)
But neon... oh yes - and lots of it! I even had the plastic shirt clips - the round ones which you'd slide up a corner of your shirt hem.
Long live the 80's and let's hope not all of those styles make a comeback! :)

Our Christmas Letter

Each year I send out a Christmas letter and the one thing that frustrates me more then anything about the letter is that I can not include all the pictures I would like. That and Brent's rule that the letter has to fit on one side of one paper. I have gotten pretty clever with font size and margins to keep this rule. All you that have read this blog know that I am a sucker for pictures. So this year along with mailing out the letters I am going to post the letter with pictures. YAY ! So fun having your own blog to torture people anyway you want. Our Christmas cards were sent out on Monday so here in all it's digital glory is the letter again, this time with pictures. (Beginning of Letter) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We hope that this letter finds you happy, healthy and enjoying the holiday season. If you are like us, it has been a little bit of a difficult year dealing with increasing prices and a budget that isn't quite stretching to meet every thing you want it to...

Fantasy Land

The writer of this blog is currently in fantasy land. Meaning there will be no post as she is to busy pretending that she is on the sunny, care free, warm beaches of Hawaii. Apparently she is also under the delusion she looks smoking hot in a bikini and can currently (in the world of fantasy) be found on the beaches of Oahu sporting a bikini top and a grass skirt. Further evidence of how deeply she has entered fantasy land includes some very cute natives making sure her umbrella drinks are full and sunblock applied. The only thing she would like to mention to those of you still dealing with the real world and the endless hours of kids and summer vacation. "The water here is perfect and the sunsets are to die for please feel free to join me."

Hip Hip Hurray, Tomorrow is PIE Day

Well in a little less then 24 hours I am going to have to reset this counter.  I can hardly believe that it says 30 days.  I have to tell you I never thought I would make it this many days I really thought I would have to reset it at some point in time. It has been a huge motivation for me knowing that you guys are watching the counter.  Also, knowing that even if you didn't catch me in the time allowed you would see that I punked.  That I didn't have the self control, not to eat sugar. Every time I would think of eating a goodie, I would think about reseting the clock.  I would wonder who was online, I would wonder if I would get caught, I would wonder who would catch me.  By the time I got through thinking about all of that I would decide the treat wasn't worth it. Another motivation has been my kids, who have said, "Mom you don't have to reset the counter no one would know."  I wanted them to see that  I could be honest and not do something I shouldn't ...
