Madam Vice President (It must be a sign)

After school today I was greeted by a very smiley, cello carrying, sixth grader.  Who upon jumping in the car said, "Hear read this." She had handed me a note about student council, how the student council officers had been chosen, and a sorry if you didn't make it. Lastly it listed the new student body officers. Second on the list and the new Vice President was Sam! In order to be on the student council she had to write an essay, the essays were then read by several teachers, and scored on a scale 1-10 the positions were handed out according to the scores.  Sam said that when they made the announcement for president they said, "And not by much your new President...." Sam is thrilled that she is the new Vice President and even more thrilled that she was only a point or two behind the President.  With Sam's permission I have included her essay below.  Brent and I are very proud of her because we did not help her with the essay.  All the ideas and words were hers.  We wanted her to know that she earned her position all on her own. Also, there was a  very strong note sent home about parents keeping their nose out of it.  Who us? Here is Sam's essay.

I would like to be considered for a student council officer because I have always looked forward to serving our school and helping in every way I can.  I also believe that being an officer is important to the school it helps everyone, and everyone should have an opportunity to make our school a better place to be.

This is my fourth year at **elementary.  I was on the student council last year and have always wanted to be an officer.  I think this would be a great opportunity for me because I am very dedicated, organized, social and not at all worried to be embarrassed.  I have always looked up to the sixth grade officers and thought that someday I could help the school just like them.

Student councils takes a very important role in our school it helps with assemblies, fun activities for everyone, and helps keep school a fun and safe place to be.  It is also important to the school because I believe it encourages kids to be there best so that they can be in the student council.

I don't know about you but I am taking this as a sign that what the world needs right now is a few more women Vice Presidents. (Hint Hint Wink Wink)

Way to go Sam! Teryn and Kalie had to do the speeches and present them at their school for the kids they were campaign managers for. They were pretty nervous just doing that. You were voted by teachers and not students. So it wasn't a popularity vote it was earned. That is awesome. Good job.

Wow, that is a great essay. I tried to keep the teacher in me in check whilst I read it. Sam did a great job. I bet she is thrilled with her accomplishment!!
What an awesome essay!! That was also a beautiful picture of Sam. She is very pretty!! I don't know what we're going to do with all these kids growing up so fast.

Krissi is only hiding from her true political feelings. She knows that the republicans have made a mess of this country which is why she is secretly going to vote for Obama.

The anonymous voice is Brent it is his belief that he can bully me into voting for Obama. Further he believes that since he works for a Union we should vote Democrat. I have so many ISSUES with his so called job that Democrat is the last way I would vote. Additionally, we live in Utah voting for Democrat is a waste of a good vote.

Our Christmas Letter

Each year I send out a Christmas letter and the one thing that frustrates me more then anything about the letter is that I can not include all the pictures I would like. That and Brent's rule that the letter has to fit on one side of one paper. I have gotten pretty clever with font size and margins to keep this rule. All you that have read this blog know that I am a sucker for pictures. So this year along with mailing out the letters I am going to post the letter with pictures. YAY ! So fun having your own blog to torture people anyway you want. Our Christmas cards were sent out on Monday so here in all it's digital glory is the letter again, this time with pictures. (Beginning of Letter) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We hope that this letter finds you happy, healthy and enjoying the holiday season. If you are like us, it has been a little bit of a difficult year dealing with increasing prices and a budget that isn't quite stretching to meet every thing you want it to...

Fantasy Land

The writer of this blog is currently in fantasy land. Meaning there will be no post as she is to busy pretending that she is on the sunny, care free, warm beaches of Hawaii. Apparently she is also under the delusion she looks smoking hot in a bikini and can currently (in the world of fantasy) be found on the beaches of Oahu sporting a bikini top and a grass skirt. Further evidence of how deeply she has entered fantasy land includes some very cute natives making sure her umbrella drinks are full and sunblock applied. The only thing she would like to mention to those of you still dealing with the real world and the endless hours of kids and summer vacation. "The water here is perfect and the sunsets are to die for please feel free to join me."

Hip Hip Hurray, Tomorrow is PIE Day

Well in a little less then 24 hours I am going to have to reset this counter.  I can hardly believe that it says 30 days.  I have to tell you I never thought I would make it this many days I really thought I would have to reset it at some point in time. It has been a huge motivation for me knowing that you guys are watching the counter.  Also, knowing that even if you didn't catch me in the time allowed you would see that I punked.  That I didn't have the self control, not to eat sugar. Every time I would think of eating a goodie, I would think about reseting the clock.  I would wonder who was online, I would wonder if I would get caught, I would wonder who would catch me.  By the time I got through thinking about all of that I would decide the treat wasn't worth it. Another motivation has been my kids, who have said, "Mom you don't have to reset the counter no one would know."  I wanted them to see that  I could be honest and not do something I shouldn't ...
