20 miles Down 80 to Go!

I just finished my first ever 20 mile bike ride.  I have to say it totally sucked eggs after 10 miles until about 18. Then after that I started to realize that I only had 2 miles to go.  I told myself I could go 2 miles anybody can go 2 miles.

It was hard and I had moments of doubts that I will be able to make it to 100 miles.  However, I made it to 20 so I just have to keep going.  Not that I don't think it will be hard and not that I don't think I will have MANY more moments of doubt but all I have to do is keep going.

The whole concept of enduring to the end has been on my mind over the past few days.  Not just in regards to a 100 mile bike ride but in regards to everything.  I am committed to this bike ride because I think it will help me to understand and apply this principle to my life more completely.

I know that life is always going to have its ups and downs.  Hard times, good times, blessings and curses. However, in the end what matters the most is that we cross the finish line knowing that we trained, endured, and worked as hard as we could.

Okay, so now you are all aware what endorphins do to my brain.   They make me sappy and a little bit crazy.  Hey, isn't that better then me trying to blackmail people to give me pies?

Hope your having an awesome Tuesday.  I'm going to go hit the showers I STINK , good thing computers can't smell. :)

Okay, so I bought a thing to hook my bike to and I did it for only like 10min. and my butt is killing me. It fills so bruised. So today I got on there and I could only stand it for 5 min. and then I had to do my treadmill and eliptical instead. So how long does it take to get your butt used to it, because if my butt is going to hurt like this forever I just might not be able to stand it. I took my kids on a bike ride and I don't remember my butt hurting until I got home and we were gone along time on that bike ride. Any advice on what to do to help this problem. I still am not commited to the bike ride, but I am really thinking about it.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You are amazing! If you can do 20, you can totally pull off another 80. I am still working up to 20 miles, but I am starting to like the process more and more.

In regards to bike seats, would it be totally uncool to mount a banana seat on my bike? I don't ever remember my butt hurting when I had a banana seat. Of course, the lack of pain could have something to do with being 6 and in good physical shape.

Oh, my finishing strategy is to actually tell people that I plan to ride for 100 miles. Then, if I get flaky, I'll have to confess to those people that I suck! So far it has kept me fairly honest. =)
Way to go! You are my hero with all your goals. I'll have to cheer you on for your ride because we'll be living up there by then! I'm hoping to be pregnant other wise I'd consider trying the bike thing. In the mean time keep it up! You're awesome! We are moving to Utah the last week of December! When we are up there I will be calling you so we can visit you! I've been so excited to see you guys and your garden but I know it's not garden time anymore so I'll just get pointers for the spring!

Registered! What Have I done?

I'm just home from the gym. My legs are shaky, my shirt is sweaty, and my muscles are loose. Saturday, I biked almost 30 miles on a hill before getting off the hill and finishing up at 35 miles. This morning I went for a nice 70 minute jog. (Legs are not HAPPY!) Last night before going to bed I registered for "Little Red." Paid my non-refundable registration fee. Needless to say I'm what you would called, "FREAKED!" Holy Cow what have I gotten myself into, a 100 mile bike ride.  Do you know that this ride will actually take me out of one state into another and back. Does that sound insane? Who gets up and says hey lets ride our bikes to that state over there and back? I think I have officially lost my mind. How does one know for sure if they have lost there mind? Short of registering for a 100 mile bike ride. Do you know people do these all the time? They do them for fun! Maybe that is the definition of insane. Well what is done is done and I have 16 weeks...

Ask "the SwimMom" Holiday Edition

One thing that you may not know about me is that in my senior year of high school I worked at Baskin Robins. I scooped, dipped, mixed, and created ice cream concoctions for almost an entire year. It was the best and worst job I ever had. My favorite ice cream desserts were malts. Ummmm!!! That is why when I came across this recipe a few years later I couldn't wait to try it. That is why after I tried this recipe it became one my favorite cookie recipes. Below is the recipe for: "Chocolate Malted Cookies" 1 cup butter-flavored shortening 1-1/4 cups packed brown sugar 1/2 cup malted milk powder 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 1 egg 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1-1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chunks 1 cup (6 ounces) milk chocolate chips In a mixing bowl, combine shortening, brown sugar, malted milk powder, chocolate syrup and vanilla; beat for 2 minutes. Add egg. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually...

Come and Gone

Christmas has come and gone the final hours of 2010 has began. I'm sure that I have a 2010 reflection post in me somewhere. But! Our 2010 is ending with family, friends and the baptism of my baby. It is so hard to type that sentence even harder to believe that we are baptizing our last little one. So the end of this year is going to come and go without a reflection post. I have chili to cook and family to visit and.... I did want to share with you a quick look at our Christmas We spent Christmas Eve at Grandma's house. At 80 years old she keeps the party rocking and we enjoy the time we get to visit with everyone. (A quick picture before we left. I try to get this picture every year on Christmas Eve.) Melting snowman was our little Christmas Eve joke since all of our Christmas snow had melted. (The stockings after Santa's Visit) This year we enjoyed a brown Christmas. The snowflakes all disappeared and the hopes of a White Christmas were in vain. ...
