52 Blessings Challenge

52blessings

Hello Friends!

I am so excited to post this weeks blessing post. I can not even express to you the joy that is currently in my heart. I am a very happy girl. The world seems better. There is nothing that could possibly bring my mood down.

Why, you ask am I in such a jovial mood?

Because friends, it is seed planting time! Yes, it is time to take tiny little seeds and foster them into pretty little pants that will either delight the eyes or the stomach. Depending on what seeds we are talking about.

Brent, I, and our two youngest just spent an hour ohhing, ahhing, and picking and choosing this years garden.

Here were mine and Al's choices!

My husband and son are bit more on the practical side but as you can see we should have a yard filled with pretties.

Be honest you know that I am going to drive you crazy with garden pictures this year so what do you want to watch grow? Vegies or Flowers? I'm betting flowers but of course I would wouldn't I?

I know that some of you are thinking, "Krissi didn't you already do a post that spring is coming blah, blah, blah followed by a nasty winter storm."

Yes, yes I did but thankfully these little seeds will start their life indoors. So Mother Nature if you decide to sucker punch us again (Below are pictures that were taken AFTER all the snow had melted and I had been all giddy with the promise of spring) I am prepared!

Just to end this post with a little reality check. Just in case you were wondering, "Does Krissi have a life she seems a little excited about seeds?"

This is a video of what I watch for entertainment

Admit it your jealous.

Your goofy cat just made my evening!!!! How can you not torment her all day long?

Seeds -- First a little about Zachary. Zach is five. He is charming, smart, sly, savvy, clever, and just a bit devious.

At heart, my blond-haired, brown-eyed boy is a farmer. He LOVES to watch things grow, literally. He loves to dig, weed, plant, water, pet worms, pick flowers. He then demands that I wear the flowers in my hair (not a problem)... he takes outragious offence if the flowers fall out, "I killed that flower to make your hair pretty and now it fell out and is just dead!"

Several weeks ago Zach, the baby, and I were at the grocery store. The local market was having a sale on seeds, $1 per package. Zach desperately wanted seeds. I allowed him to pick out anything that would grow in our climate. The boy was thrilled! We bought carrots (he loves carrots so much he requested them for his birthday dinner), chives, basil, cilantro, morning glory, bachelor button, foxglove, CA poppy, and Iceland poppy. Zach was so delighted the rest of the shopping trip he skipped through the store (except when we came to the colored tiles... those a guns and must be hopped over).

In time, I bought peet pots and potting soil. Then last week, the magical day arrived and it was time to plant the seeds. Everything was set... we had pots, seeds, soil, water, and a very willing volunteer. Zach carefully placed each seed into the soil, covered and watered "the babies." "Mom, I calls them babies because they are baby plants. We just have to wait for the dirt to make them grow up and then we can eat 'em." --It was a Rockwell moment. --

All was harmony and joy until we got to the cilantro. I explained to Zach that he likes to eat cilantro. It is good in soup, chili verde, tacos, and all kinds of other foods (we had a similar talk about the basil). I also told him that cilantro grows from corriandor seeds. Corriandor is a spice used in cooking. The boy stared at me as if I had three heads! To demonstrate, I popped a seed in my mouth and "MMmmmmmed."

Zach stared at me in horror. Then he started to yell. "MOM!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! DON'T EAT THE BABIES!!!! WHY ARE YOU EATING THE BABIES!! YOUR TUMMY WONT GET ENOUGH LIGHT TO HELP THEM GROW. IF YOU EAT THE BABIES YOU NEED TO EAT DIRT FOR THEM.... EAT IT... EAT THE DIRT!!!!! i DIDN'T EAT YOUR BABY... I DIDN'T EAT CHRISTOPHER! STOP EATING MY BABIES!!!!!!!!"

Norman Rockwell had left the building. Zach was crying huge tears of grief and despair. I tried to console him, but the damage was done... I had eaten his babies.

A week later we have sprouts!! Our morning glories are growing so quickly you can almost watch them shoot upwards (2 more inches just yesterday... I measured). Zach is delighted, but sometimes he'll walk by and whisper to the seeds that haven't sprouted, "you better hurry up and grow, or mommy will eat you too!"
Me, Myself and I said…
I love zinnias! And tulips, but there already in the ground... easy-peasy flowers.

At my Age

I saw this quote the other day and had to smile. It has been interesting finishing school at my age. I have had this feeling more than once that I am a little old, and finishing school is something I should have done a long time ago. Usually I remind myself that we all have our own paths to take in life. My path had me marry at 19 and become the mother of four beautiful rug rats by 27. Marriage and children defined me more than anything. I became more aware of my talents and abilities. I really didn't know who I was before I became a wife and mother. Waiting until now to finish my degree gave me time to figure out who I am. Well, at least to have a better idea of who I am. I love being in a classroom, I love learning, and I love helping others learn. My inner nerd does little happy dances every time I learn something new. Each person on this planet has their own God given talents. We have a responsibility to find our talents and to make the world a better place. How old you are wh...

Pinewood Derby or Bust!

If there is one thing that Brent and I both agree on.  One thing that we both believe is essential to the proper development, growth, and raising of a son. That no boyhood would be complete with out.  It would be participation in the Pinewood Derby.   Yes, on this one thing Brent and I are in total agreement.  A boyhood is not a true boyhood until a boy has built a pinewood derby car and then competed in a pinewood derby.  It is that important!  I'm sorry if you have never had the opportunity to live in a house filled with the air of pinewood derby. If you have never had the opportunity of watching a father stand to the side as his son uses HIS power tools. The opportunity to take a chunk of wood and see that inside the wood is the makings of a CAR.   You wonder why men are so obsessed with cars, with how there made, and how fast they go.  Well if you have ever brought home a pinewood derby box kit to a home with boys and men all your questions would be answered. Once the car is b...

The Kids Today

S. is now 11 years old and is counting down the days until she turns 12. She is in the fifth grade and says math is her favorite subject. She stays pretty busy with swimming and soccer. This past year in addition to a regular AYSO team she has been competing on an All Star Team. She has really enjoyed it and is really looking forward to a tournament that will take place in Hawaii this July. She still loves swimming and is still competing when she can. A. is 9 years old and is the professor of the house.  He is our silent man whose brain is in constant motion.  He reads and reads and reads and soon will read me out of house and home.  He enjoys video and computer games, and he loves playing sports.  In January he made the city swim team and continues to play soccer, basketball, and anything that I let him.  Al will soon be eight.  As in next week soon.  The best part of school she says is 3:25 when pressed for a better answer than that she say...
