The After School Routine

In approximately 20 minutes all of this silence is going to end. YAY!! However, when all the silence ends it means that all the monsters are going to be home. Maybe I shouldn't complain about the silence.

First S. will get home. She will walk in the door with a big smile on her face. A smile that says, "That's right I'm big, I'm home first. Niener Niener." She is loving the fact that she beats all the little monsters home. That whole 15 minutes defines her as the big Sis. Sometimes it is the small things in life that make us the happiest.

Approximately 15 minutes later A. will walk in the door. By himself without the other two. No he doesn't walk through the door he struts. Promptly he drops his backpack in MY front room and heads for the kitchen. He says nothing he is as Willow puts it "A Ninja." This is mainly because I will say, "Where is your brother and sister? You are suppose to walk home with them. Why did you beat them home?" He just nods and says, "They were right behind me."

I sigh loudly and say, "Can't you just walk home together and get along for five minutes."

He then says, "I did wait they walk slow."

It is the same conversation every day. I never get a satisfactory answer. He never waits for his younger siblings.

Following this conversation he struts downstairs where within moments I hear, "Knock it off! Stop it! Your a jerk." Alpha Male working on Big Sis. One of these days he will probably pee on her.

A few short moments later the younger two walk in the door, Together! It is amazing they have grasped the concept of sibling and together. They will say, "Mom, we're home! They will tell me that they had a great day at school." I will say, "You did, Why?" They will both normally answer, "Because we got to color."

Again sometimes it is the simplest things that make us the happiest.

A little bit later they too will go down the stairs where a few short moments later I will hear, "Knock it off. Stop it! Your MEAN!" Again big Bro working to declare his Alpha Male spot.

He will probably pee on them one day soon too.

My middle child gets home first; he is in 1/2 day kindergarten. He has a full three hours to enjoy life without being told what to do, what to say, and how to say it (the big bossy brother has several ideas about how everything [including his brother] should function).

Yesterday, Zachary bounded through the front door like a puppy ready to romp in the yard. He was allowed to choose a prize from the prize box! He excitedly told me he chose sprinkles, "they are colorful and you can put them on EVERYTHING!" I figured he had picked out a container of glitter and was thinking very ill of his teacher for giving glitter to kindergartener hands. Then he showed me the container... it was not glitter... it was cake sprinkles! Really? Cake sprinkles in a treasure box? Zach is thrilled beyond measure... because it IS the simple things that make us happiest.

Also, he is trying to decide what I need to make for his sprinkles to adorn. He is torn between cake, frosted cookies, or brownies.

Sometimes the sweet things are just as nice as the simple. =)

You are too funny. Don't you just love how it all has to end in a fight, just like at my house!!

Our Christmas Letter

Each year I send out a Christmas letter and the one thing that frustrates me more then anything about the letter is that I can not include all the pictures I would like. That and Brent's rule that the letter has to fit on one side of one paper. I have gotten pretty clever with font size and margins to keep this rule. All you that have read this blog know that I am a sucker for pictures. So this year along with mailing out the letters I am going to post the letter with pictures. YAY ! So fun having your own blog to torture people anyway you want. Our Christmas cards were sent out on Monday so here in all it's digital glory is the letter again, this time with pictures. (Beginning of Letter) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We hope that this letter finds you happy, healthy and enjoying the holiday season. If you are like us, it has been a little bit of a difficult year dealing with increasing prices and a budget that isn't quite stretching to meet every thing you want it to...

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. It is always nice to take time out and spend time with family and enjoy each others company. I am looking forward more than I can say to our Thanksgiving break. I wrapped up my diversity class good, bad, or indifferent it is done. YAY! Reflections is all but done. This year we had 130 projects submitted three years ago when I started as the Reflection chick we had 9 projects submitted. It almost brought me to tears seeing all the kids projects and their creativity. So very awesome and soooo much work. The economy is looking a tiny bit better and it looks like we may get a little good news in the coming months. That will be a welcome break. All in all I have to say things are looking up. Which brings me to my thought for the day "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy My greatest hope for this holiday season is that I can live by the spiri...

Hip Hip Hurray, Tomorrow is PIE Day

Well in a little less then 24 hours I am going to have to reset this counter.  I can hardly believe that it says 30 days.  I have to tell you I never thought I would make it this many days I really thought I would have to reset it at some point in time. It has been a huge motivation for me knowing that you guys are watching the counter.  Also, knowing that even if you didn't catch me in the time allowed you would see that I punked.  That I didn't have the self control, not to eat sugar. Every time I would think of eating a goodie, I would think about reseting the clock.  I would wonder who was online, I would wonder if I would get caught, I would wonder who would catch me.  By the time I got through thinking about all of that I would decide the treat wasn't worth it. Another motivation has been my kids, who have said, "Mom you don't have to reset the counter no one would know."  I wanted them to see that  I could be honest and not do something I shouldn't ...
