Believe in Myself

Good Morning,

I hope that everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. The weather here in Utah is helping to remind me that summer is rapidly coming to an end. (Big Sigh)

We had a fairly kick back weekend. I finally had the opportunity to jump in and get some chores done that really NEEDED to be done. Including, cleaning out the office.

It is embarrassing how many bags of trash we emptied out of this place. I want to know where it all comes from. Paper, paper, paper! I swear I had a small rainforest in my office.

As I was cleaning I came across a folder that I had stashed a few quotes. As I flipped through the folder I found the following quote.

“I am responsible for how I feel, and what I do.
No other person can make me feel anything.
If I am having a bad day I am the one who allowed it to be that way.
If I have a great day, then I am the one who deserves the credit for being positive.
It is not the responsibility of other people to change so I can feel better.
I am the one that is in charge of my life, and I can believe in myself.”

I really wish I knew who wrote this quote.

Have you ever heard about the law of attraction? Basically, the law says that whatever thoughts we are having influence our reality. It is a little new agey.

However, lately I have been thinking about how my attitude is not helping me. I think I have mentioned a time or two how much I adore people who laugh. I mean the kind of people who you cannot help but to smile whenever they are around. For example my friend Willow, who was been on this blog a time or two, you can not, I dare you to even try, be around Willow for five minutes without having a big stupid grin on your face. Then after you grin you start to giggle. Once the giggles start you’re just a goner.

You walk away happy! That is a prime example of the Law of Attraction. Find Willow if you need a smile.

Well, as I have been thinking about my attitude I have had a few other experiences that have happened to remind me that I am the only person responsible for how I behave and feel. Including finding the quote above and concluding with a dream I had last night where I was lecturing myself for a good long time about my bad attitude.

I ask you, who has dreams where they lecture themselves? It is just a bit strange. When I woke up this morning I was determined that I was going to change.

However, saying your going to change and actually changing are two totally different animals. As I spent the morning trying to figure out how this change was going to come about I realized that ultimately this is what this blog is about.

I chose the title Lighting My Light, because I want to get to a point in my life that my inner light shines. Where I have a clear understanding of who I am. I think somewhere behind all of my pessimism and bad attitude is a person who wants to smile and laugh and enjoy everyday.

For the next 30 days I am going to embark on an optimisms journey. Where everyday I am going to look for ways to change pessimism into optimism. If you’re inclined please feel free to throw out suggestions. I would love to hear some of the ways that you find to change your frown into a smile.

Love,

Krissi

The only drawback to being frieds with Willow is she is frequently annoyingly optimistic.... optimistic to the point of insensitive. For example, a few years ago one of her friends was moving to Utah (a different friend, but I'm still a bit annoyed with you too). The week before the move, the friend's washing machine broke. It was dead, beyond repair. Her friend was distraught over the loss of the machine, but WIllow (ever sensitive to her friend) said... "well, at least you don't have to move it now." Tears exploded from the friend. As it turns out, the friend was not at all thrilled about the move. A bit of backpeddling and many hugs later, the friend was consoled, but Willow still felt like a total heal.

So... in pursuit of optimism, don't forget that others may need a hug more than a cheerful comment.

Hi, my name is Willow and I've been told refering to oneself in the third person is pretentious. To the pretentiousness I say...
PLHSBDYSEHSLSHSHSH (that is supposed to sound like a raspberry, not cursing)!

P.S. Thank you for the honorable mention. I've been having a bit of a pity party today (it sucks when you know someone is a scorpion [ala the frog and scorpion fable], but you expect that *this time* you won't be stung... only to be predictably stung) and this made me smile.

P.P.S.

Optimistic advice #1 -- Never forget to laugh at yourself. If you take yourself too seriously, you will miss the most hilarious person you have ever met.

#2 -- Today's tragedy is tomorrow's "OOOH, I have the most awesome story ever!!"

#3 -- It is okay to do something goofy/wildly wacky just to tell a funny story later.

#4 -- Being the butt of a joke is fine as long as those that make you the butt can take on that roll as well. =)
OK, that quote is AWESOME.

At my Age

I saw this quote the other day and had to smile. It has been interesting finishing school at my age. I have had this feeling more than once that I am a little old, and finishing school is something I should have done a long time ago. Usually I remind myself that we all have our own paths to take in life. My path had me marry at 19 and become the mother of four beautiful rug rats by 27. Marriage and children defined me more than anything. I became more aware of my talents and abilities. I really didn't know who I was before I became a wife and mother. Waiting until now to finish my degree gave me time to figure out who I am. Well, at least to have a better idea of who I am. I love being in a classroom, I love learning, and I love helping others learn. My inner nerd does little happy dances every time I learn something new. Each person on this planet has their own God given talents. We have a responsibility to find our talents and to make the world a better place. How old you are wh...

Hip Hip Hurray, Tomorrow is PIE Day

Well in a little less then 24 hours I am going to have to reset this counter.  I can hardly believe that it says 30 days.  I have to tell you I never thought I would make it this many days I really thought I would have to reset it at some point in time. It has been a huge motivation for me knowing that you guys are watching the counter.  Also, knowing that even if you didn't catch me in the time allowed you would see that I punked.  That I didn't have the self control, not to eat sugar. Every time I would think of eating a goodie, I would think about reseting the clock.  I would wonder who was online, I would wonder if I would get caught, I would wonder who would catch me.  By the time I got through thinking about all of that I would decide the treat wasn't worth it. Another motivation has been my kids, who have said, "Mom you don't have to reset the counter no one would know."  I wanted them to see that  I could be honest and not do something I shouldn't ...

Stepping Up to the Plate

This is going to be one of those braggy, braggy post just thought I would warn you. Life has gotten to the point that it is completely out of control. I’m not really sure what we were thinking when we had four children in the span of six years. I also don’t know why I thought it was difficult when they were small because life now is, as I said, completely out of control. Everyone is at the age that they are involved or doing something. Our nights have become logistic nightmares. Pick up here, drop off here, go here, and stop here. It is craziness. Added to this insanity is the fact that we are currently a one-vehicle family. A couple of months ago as I was signing Al. up for basketball I was desperately trying to talk H. out of playing basketball. He has only wanted to play since he was four and every year he would remind me how many more years until he could play. Why, oh Why did I not say he had to be 16? Eventually, I gave in and signed him up knowing it was going to be tough to fit...
