Halloween "The Pumpkins"

This year our garden produced 11 pumpkins. Which was pretty amazing considering I planted them in a variety places in our yard and then ignored them. It wasn't until the leaves died that we discovered how many we had.

It was funny watching Brent realize that all of the pumpkins would be carved. We added one more pumpkin from a pumpkin patch field trip with H.

(These pics were taken with my palm pre phone. This post forced me to figure out how to get the pics off my phone. I had 100 pictures sitting there with no clue how to get them off. I have to admit I'm pretty impressed with this phone. Not the best pictures but I think they capture the moment.)

H. and one of his best friends. This little guy is four days older than H.and they are going to be baptized together on January 1st. He is a great kid and reminds me how thankful I am for good friends and good influences. Totally off subject but I just love this picture.

Here is a quick pick of all 12 pumpkins cleaned and ready to be carved. Brent and I and two of the kids had it done in under an hour we are pumpkin cleaning fools.

Then we all went to work. As the kids pointed out everyone had two pumpkins to carve. Can I tell you, even though I complain about everyone getting older, there are a few good points. For example carving pumpkins. Everyone carved their own pumpkin and I wasn't trying to take care of five people all at once. We just sat around the table together having fun. I loved it!

I know that there is a lack of smiles in these pictures. What can I say other than they were all thinking and working very hard and I promise there was lots of smiles when we were done. AND not just because we were done.

It was a great day and when we were done this was the result

Maybe, a bit over kill but remember we didn't buy any of these pumpkins. They all came out of our garden. What else were we going to do with them.

Brent would like to interrupt at this moment and remind me and everyone else how much he loves pumpkin pie. He knows exactly what else we could have done with the pumpkins.

I just love Halloween. Remind me of that next year.

I love your witch sign. I think I say something about it every time we drive past your house. Paul just nods. "Uh-huh. Uh yeah. No, honey, I don't think you've ever said anything about how much you like the sign. Uh huh....yeah..."

Are the pumpkins still out? We didn't make it by your house trick or treating 'cuz of the darn cold rain! But Hollie would love to see all 12 of your pumpkins. We might have to take a walk and look at them, if they're still out.

May I remind Brent that jack-o-lantern pumpkins DO NOT MAKE GOOD PUMPKIN PIE!!! ICK ICK ICK!!! So you made very good use of the pumpkins.

You have to grow special pumpkin pie pumpkins to make pumpkin pie. No joke. :) Gotta use Cinderella, Baby Pam, Lumina, or Pink Banana Squash pumpkins.

I think pumpkin is a funny-looking word. The more I look at it, the surer I am I am spelling it wrong. ;)

Did someone carve the number 300 into a pumpkin?

Our Christmas Letter

Each year I send out a Christmas letter and the one thing that frustrates me more then anything about the letter is that I can not include all the pictures I would like. That and Brent's rule that the letter has to fit on one side of one paper. I have gotten pretty clever with font size and margins to keep this rule. All you that have read this blog know that I am a sucker for pictures. So this year along with mailing out the letters I am going to post the letter with pictures. YAY ! So fun having your own blog to torture people anyway you want. Our Christmas cards were sent out on Monday so here in all it's digital glory is the letter again, this time with pictures. (Beginning of Letter) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We hope that this letter finds you happy, healthy and enjoying the holiday season. If you are like us, it has been a little bit of a difficult year dealing with increasing prices and a budget that isn't quite stretching to meet every thing you want it to...

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. It is always nice to take time out and spend time with family and enjoy each others company. I am looking forward more than I can say to our Thanksgiving break. I wrapped up my diversity class good, bad, or indifferent it is done. YAY! Reflections is all but done. This year we had 130 projects submitted three years ago when I started as the Reflection chick we had 9 projects submitted. It almost brought me to tears seeing all the kids projects and their creativity. So very awesome and soooo much work. The economy is looking a tiny bit better and it looks like we may get a little good news in the coming months. That will be a welcome break. All in all I have to say things are looking up. Which brings me to my thought for the day "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy My greatest hope for this holiday season is that I can live by the spiri...

Hip Hip Hurray, Tomorrow is PIE Day

Well in a little less then 24 hours I am going to have to reset this counter.  I can hardly believe that it says 30 days.  I have to tell you I never thought I would make it this many days I really thought I would have to reset it at some point in time. It has been a huge motivation for me knowing that you guys are watching the counter.  Also, knowing that even if you didn't catch me in the time allowed you would see that I punked.  That I didn't have the self control, not to eat sugar. Every time I would think of eating a goodie, I would think about reseting the clock.  I would wonder who was online, I would wonder if I would get caught, I would wonder who would catch me.  By the time I got through thinking about all of that I would decide the treat wasn't worth it. Another motivation has been my kids, who have said, "Mom you don't have to reset the counter no one would know."  I wanted them to see that  I could be honest and not do something I shouldn't ...
