Ask "the SwimMom" Holiday Edition

Today's "the SwimMom" post promises to be short and to the point. Mainly, because in a few hours my home is going to be filled with children. Our book club is having a little family get together and between the few of us there are almost 30 kids. Take a peak here to see them.

Aren't they cute monsters? I asked a group of girls/women this question yesterday and was amazed at how quickly they each answered. My curiosity is peeked and I just have to know.

Are you a Snowman or a Santa person?



Me, I'm a snowman person. Most of my Christmas decorations are snowman. Most of my beloved ornaments, Snowman. I don't really have an issue with Jolly Old St. Nick. I just prefer Frosty.

Really, I think it has a lot to do with growing up in Utah and then moving to California. I missed having a white Christmas. So I compensated with a house full of snowmen. Now that I live in Utah again, they are my friends I can't change now.


So do you sing "Frosty the Snowman," or "Jolly Ol' St. Nicholas?"

I think I agree with you, snowman are much cuter than santa. I don't have much of either of them but if I did it would be snowmen all the way.

Bah Humbug!

We have neither snowmen nor Santa Clauses. There is no real reason that we don't have either... mostly it comes down to finances. When we have extra disposable income, I can't find something I like. When we are dead broke, I can find all kinds of things.

Were I to choose, I would have to go with a nice Father Christmas. Santa is a bit creepy in my opinion, but those 18-24 inch Father Christmases with their deep colored and fur lined coats, crinkly noses, twinkly eyes rimmed with wire spectacles, and respectable facial hair are absolutely lovely.

Oh, and I have thought of a tradition that I don't quite get. My husband grew up going to the movies on Christmas Eve. I grew up listening to my father read the Christmas stories from the gospels... then we sang carols, drank cider and faux wassail (no alcohol in our wassail), ventured out to look at Christmas lights. The night ended with all of us playing games until Mom and Dad insisted we go to bed. I have yet to embrace the movie theatre during Christmas. (Of course, I am not much of a movie person in general)

All snowmen in my home. Only one santa. Like you said being in a place it doesn't snow having snowmen in the home brings the memory of white,cold, wintery Christmases from MT and UT.

I love both frosty and santa; I seem to have the same amount of each in my Christmas decorations. But, when I'm at the store looking at Christmas stuff, I'm always drawn to the snowmen.

P.S. I'm really glad that you guys had a good time at the movies. I'm not surprised that Sam liked the movie. We're still really sad that we missed out. We'll have to plan it again. Zaron and I went on Saturday night to see Twilight. He wanted to see what all the hype was about. I don't know if it made it better or worse. We're really looking forward to Christmas.

I am a total Santa girl here. Almost ALL my ornaments through the years have been Santas. I still get excited when I see him too! :)

Our Christmas Letter

Each year I send out a Christmas letter and the one thing that frustrates me more then anything about the letter is that I can not include all the pictures I would like. Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. It is always nice to take time out and spend time with family and enjoy each others company. I am looking forward more than I can say to our Thanksgiving break. I wrapped up my diversity class good, bad, or indifferent it is done. YAY! Reflections is all but done. This year we had 130 projects submitted three years ago when I started as the Reflection chick we had 9 projects submitted. It almost brought me to tears seeing all the kids projects and their creativity. So very awesome and soooo much work. The economy is looking a tiny bit better and it looks like we may get a little good news in the coming months. That will be a welcome break. All in all I have to say things are looking up. The Kids Today

S. is now 11 years old and is counting down the days until she turns 12. She is in the fifth grade and says math is her favorite subject. She stays pretty busy with swimming and soccer. This past year in addition to a regular AYSO team she has been competing on an All Star Team. She has really enjoyed it and is really looking forward to a tournament that will take place in Hawaii this July. She still loves swimming and is still competing when she can. A. is 9 years old and is the professor of the house.  He is our silent man whose brain is in constant motion.  He reads and reads and reads and soon will read me out of house and home.  He enjoys video and computer games, and he loves playing sports.  In January he made the city swim team and continues to play soccer, basketball, and anything that I let him.  Al will soon be eight.  As in next week soon.  The best part of school she says is 3:25 when pressed for a better answer than that she say...
